Main Characters: Katnis Everdeen, Peeta Mellark
Summary:
In the future, there are 12 districts, the 13th was destroyed in a rebellion against the Capitol. Panem, the Capitol, forces each district to send one boy and one girl to fight to the death against all the other children from different districts live on TV. Panem made districts do this to say that the Capitol had all the power and that if the districts were to start a rebellion again, they would be destroyed. When Katniss's sister, Prim, is chosen by the Capitol to compete in the games, Katniss Everdeen from District 12 steps up to take her place. Katniss surprises everybody including herself and becomes a different person. People start to admire her and she becomes a contender. The other boy from her district, Peeta Mellark, says he loves her and that he had a crush on her ever since he saw her. He does this to get sponsors and also because it is true. Katniss must act as though she loves him back to get even more sponsors although she doesn't really love him. Soon they are the "star-crossed lovers" In the games, Katniss becomes allies with a girl name Rue. When Rue dies, Katniss is determined to win for herself, family and friends. There is a rule change that two people from the same district can win together. Katniss finds Peeta and they work together. When they all the last two, the rule changes back saying that only one can win. Katniss thinks that Panem needs a victor no matter what so she and Peeta prepare to die. At the last moment they are announced victors of the Hunger Games. But the two people are in trouble. They must keep on acting in order to stay alive.
1. power
2. Making the right choices and decisions can change and end your life.
3.
Katniss Everdeen: brave, thoughtful, kind
Peeta Mellark: clever, caring, thoughtful
4. I think the scene in which Katniss tells the Avox that she should have tried to save her was memorable. The the Avox taps her lips with her fingers then points to Katniss's chest. Katniss interprets as- you should have ended up as an Avox too.
I chose this scene because I think the Avox was saving that she forgave her and good luck, it was memorable.
5. The author was trying to tell us about war and that people can do anything to survive. I also think the Hunger Games was a message to us that we could become like that one day and we should make the right decisions. Some of the children in other districts called Career Tributes prepare for this annual event. They train to fight and to kill. They aren't hesitant about killing somebody. They don't think twice before they do it.
6. I would rate this book a 9. The book was interesting. But I don't think I would read the next book. The plot was very different from other books but I think that it could of been better. I liked the ending though.
I think another reason why I might of disliked the book was because I watched the movie first.
