Summer of the Swans

By Betsy Byars

Main Characters: Sara, Charlie, Joe Melby

Summary:
Sara lives with her Aunt Willie because her mother died and her father left her. Sara lives with her sister and brother, Charlie, who doesn't talk because his brain was damaged when he was young. One night after Sara takes Charlie to see the swans, he disappears. Joe Melby, her enemy, helps her find him and Sara learns that Joe Melby was actually not the one who stole Charlie's watch.

1. feelings

2. Love can be silent and shy.

3. Sara: Emotional, caring, protective

    Charlie: calm, thoughtful, sad

    Joe Melby: Innocent, shy, thoughtful

4. There are swans sort of just moving around in the water. It is extremely quiet and nobody was moving. Everything is still and Sara and Charlie are staring at the swans. The swans are gracefully gliding along, silent.

I chose this scene because I like the mood, this scene describes the relationship between Charlie and his sister- silent love.

5. I think one message the author was trying to share to the readers was don't judge a person by their first impressions. Sara hates Joe Melby because she thinks that he stole Charlie's watch and she doesn't even have proof. It was actually Joe Melby who found the watch and returned it. But yet, Sara detests Joe Melby for that reason. But she finds out the truth and learns that he is actually nice and he asks here to a party.

6. I would rate this book a 10, because I thought the writing style was very good and the author is one of my favorites. The author described the scenes very well and I liked the ending a lot.

7.
